If your in-network medical or dental provider offer telehealth services or consultations, the Plan will pay benefits for covered services. Refer to the medical page or the dental page for more information on how office visits are covered.
Telehealth is also available at UAMS facilities. You do not have to be enrolled in a University medical plan to use UAMS telehealth services.
Teladoc® lets you skip long waits and visit a doctor from the comfort and convenience of your own home or while you’re on the go. Connect 24/7 to a U.S.-based, board-certified doctor in minutes via video chat, using your smartphone, tablet, or computer.
What You’ll Pay
Your copay for a Teladoc visit depends on the University medical plan you’re enrolled in. Copays for the Premier and Classic Plans are the same as an office visit with a primary care physician:
Classic Plan: $35 copay
Premier Plan: $25 copay
For the Health Savings Plan, you’ll pay $45 per visit until you meet your annual deductible. After you meet your annual deductible, you’ll pay 10% coinsurance—just $4.50 per visit. For behavioral health visits, before you meet your annual deductible, you’ll pay an initial $200 copay for your first visit; each additional behavioral health visit will cost $85 to meet with a PhD and $95 to meet with an MD. After you meet your annual deductible, you’ll pay 10% coinsurance—just $8.50—to meet with a PhD and $9.50 to meet with an MD.
Here’s How It Works
Teladoc uses the same technology as video chat services like FaceTime and Skype, but the chat is delivered using secure, HIPAA-compliant technology. That means your virtual office visits are completely confidential. Consultations generally last 10 minutes and include:
Evaluation of your issue
Discussion of your diagnosis
Summary of your consultation and follow-up recommendations
Submission of any necessary prescriptions, subject to certain restrictions
When to Use Teladoc
Use Teladoc when you have a minor medical issue that otherwise might require a visit to your primary care provider, an urgent care center, or an emergency room for a non-emergency issue.
Teladoc is also available for behavioral health consultations!
You must make an appointment through the website, app, or by calling Teladoc to schedule a meeting with a behavioral health specialist.
Only use Teladoc for non-emergency medical situations. If your medical concern is an emergency, always call 911. If you need care for an ongoing chronic condition or an annual or routine physical, schedule an in-person appointment with your provider.
