Teladoc® and UAMS HealthNow telehealth let you skip long waits and visit a doctor from the comfort and convenience of your own home or while you’re on the go.
Telehealth providers are U.S.-based, board-certified doctors who you can connect with in minutes via video chat, using your smartphone, tablet, or computer.
What You’ll Pay
Your copay depends on the University medical plan you’re enrolled in. Copays for the Premier and Classic Plans are the same as an office visit with a primary care physician:
- Classic Plan: $35 copay
- Premier Plan: $25 copay
For the Health Savings Plan:
- Teledoc: You’ll pay $45 per visit until you meet your annual deductible. After you meet your annual deductible, you’ll pay 10% coinsurance—just $4.50 per visit. For behavioral health visits, before you meet your annual deductible, you’ll pay an initial $200 copay for your first visit; each additional behavioral health visit will cost $85 to meet with a PhD and $95 to meet with an MD. After you meet your annual deductible, you’ll pay 10% coinsurance—just $8.50—to meet with a PhD and $9.50 to meet with an MD.
- UAMS HealthNow: You’ll pay the full cost of the visit until you meet your annual deductible. After you meet your annual deductible, you’ll pay 10% coinsurance.
Note: You do not need to be enrolled in a University medical plan to use UAMS HealthNow providers.
Here’s How It Works
Telehealth uses the same technology as video chat services like FaceTime and Skype. Your virtual office visits are completely confidential. Consultations generally last 10 minutes and include:
- Evaluation of your issue
- Discussion of your diagnosis
- Summary of your consultation and follow-up recommendations
- Submission of any necessary prescriptions, subject to certain restrictions
When to Use Telehealth
Use telehealth when you have a minor medical issue that otherwise might require a visit to your primary care provider, an urgent care center, or an emergency room for a non-emergency issue.
Only use telehealth for non-emergency medical situations. If your medical concern is an emergency, always call 911. If you need care for an ongoing chronic condition or an annual or routine physical, schedule an in-person appointment with your provider.
