UAS UMR Cares – September: Tobacco and Nicotine Cessation
Nicotine is a highly addictive substance, and long-term use of tobacco/nicotine products can cause a variety of health issues.
While tobacco use was generally declining, the invention of e-cigarettes — often marketed in appealing shapes, colors and flavors — has turned around that trend. Unlike traditional tobacco products, e-cigarettes are not regulated by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA). As a result, there is no certainty regarding their safety, the specific chemicals they contain or the amount of nicotine being inhaled.
If you or a covered dependent struggles with nicotine addiction, the university offers programs that can help.
- UMR Live Well Reward$ Program: Earn wellness program points and redeem financial rewards when you schedule an annual wellness visit, remain tobacco/nicotine free or complete tobacco/nicotine cessation with a cessation coach.
- Assistance Program: Access confidential counseling through the Member Assistance Program (MAP), available 24/7 to you and your family, and receive personal support as you embark on your cessation journey.
