UHC Insurance Plans

You have the option to enroll in three employee-pay-all supplemental health insurance plans through UnitedHealthcare:

  • Critical Illness Protection: Financial protection if you’re diagnosed with a serious illness
  • Hospital Indemnity Protection: Financial protection for hospital stays and associated treatment costs
  • Accident Protection: Financial protection for unexpected injuries or accidents

You can enroll in one, two or all three plans. Plus, each plan offers a $50 annual wellness benefit that you can use to help offset the cost of this valuable coverage.

Why enroll?

If a serious illness or injury resulting in medical expenses would be a financial burden, consider whether one (or more) of these plans could provide some peace of mind.

Enrolling in Coverage

Enroll in the UnitedHealthcare plans through Workday.

You have 31 days from your first day of employment to enroll. If you do not enroll during this initial 31-day time period, you can only enroll:

  • During open enrollment (generally, in the fall of each year), or
  • Within 31 days of a qualifying life event.

Cost of Coverage

What you’ll pay depends on your plan option and the dependents you choose to cover. To review plan limitations, read each plan’s Summary of Benefits, listed on this webpage under “Important Documents.”

Claims

If you have a covered illness, injury or hospitalization, submit a claim to UnitedHealthcare, and the plan will pay a tax-free benefit directly to you.

Cash benefits are in addition to any benefits paid by your university medical coverage. There is no offset or coordination of benefits between these supplemental plans and your university medical coverage.

There’s no deductible and you can use the money however you wish. For example, you can use the cash benefits to reimburse yourself for:

  • Copays and deductibles
  • Travel expenses to treatment centers
  • Prescriptions
  • Child care
  • Other expenses not covered by insurance

File a Claim

Call to submit a claim: (866) 556-8298, 8:00 AM to 8:00 PM (ET), Monday through Friday.

Or, submit a claim using a paper form.
