The University provides Basic Short-Term and Long-Term Disability Insurance, as well as optional Short-Term and Long-Term Disability Insurance coverage.
Short-Term Disability Insurance
The University provides Basic Short-Term Disability Insurance of 60% of your pre-disability salary, up to $45,000, at no cost to you. Coverage is provided automatically at no cost to you and is administered by Standard Insurance. Benefits start when you have been out of work for 14 days and have used all accrued leave. (Use of accrued leave is not required for maternity leave.)
Short-term disability benefits end when you qualify for long-term disability benefits—normally starting 180 days after your last day at work.
You cannot opt out of Basic Short-Term Disability Insurance.

Health Advocacy Select
If you’re eligible for short-term disability leave, Health Advocacy Select can help! A Personal Health Advocate (typically, a Registered Nurse) will help you with a wide range of services, including:
- Scheduling appointments
- Coordinating health care with providers and specialists
- Managing out-of-pocket medical expenses
- Resolving medical claims and billing issues
- Finding resources for services that may not be covered through health insurance

If your claim is approved by Standard Insurance, you will receive monthly benefits for as long as you remain disabled, up to age 65. If your disability begins at age 60 or older, you will be eligible to receive benefits for a set period of time, depending on when your disability began. Long-Term Disability Insurance

If your claim is approved by Standard Insurance, you will receive monthly benefits for as long as you remain disabled, up to age 65. If your disability begins at age 60 or older, you will be eligible to receive benefits for a set period of time, depending on when your disability began. Special Long-Term Disability for Faculty Group Practice Members
Faculty Group Practice (FPG) members are enrolled automatically in employer-paid Long-Term Disability. The Long-Term Disability plan for FPG members provides 60% of your pre-disability salary, up to $500,000.
If you enroll after your initial benefits eligibility date, benefits will be subject to a 12-month pre-existing condition waiting period before benefits begin.
